How's everything going?

Overall - great! I'm getting the hang of design and happy with where I'm at. Some days are better than others, but at the end of each day I love the process and everything I do.

As a designer, can you please talk about your ethos and your work process?

I'd love to. My ethos is connected with the name of my project, With A Beginner's Mind. I believe in learning and sharing what I know with those around me.

My work process entails moodboarding via Tumblr, practicing Illustrator, chasing curiosities, and holding myself accountable to bring an idea from a sketch to proof of concept.

Sorry, did you say Tumblr?

Yes! I've used Tumblr for 10 years and it's something I've grown fond of. More recently, I've started to connect with others on the platform; it's been great.

When it comes to designing, I use my Tumblr as a moodboard to keep track of ideas, fabrics, and textures that I want to incorporate into future designs. The most special thing is seeing how my personal style has changed over the years.

What designers interest you at the moment?

Off top, I'd say Lemaire, Second Layer, PAA, and Jil Sander. Those 4 brands always have me foaming at the mouth. It's something about the way they communicate 'less is more'. That's what I'm trying to do as well.

Do you have to struggle to keep it authentic? It's not easy.

Not really I'm doing me and it's working - no need to change my sails. I'm building a brand that reflects my interests; to me, that's the definition of authentic. There is no better me than me.

Final question: what are your ambitions and goals for the future?

I'm working on 2021 right now - trying to make sense of dreams and new milestones I want to ago after. While I still need to put more thought into it, I know that I want to do the following: develop larger quantities, collaborate with friends more frequently, and design one garment here in Los Angeles.

2020 was great, I tried something new and loved it. Next year, I want to be even more focused on WABM.
